Working with an IT recruitment agency, answered.
What employers ask before they hand us a search.
A recruitment agency finds and screens people you would not reach through a job posting, then presents a short list you can interview. The work that matters happens before the shortlist: understanding the role well enough to judge a candidate, approaching people who are employed and not looking, and testing whether they can do the job rather than describe it. We only recruit technology roles across Canada, permanent and contract, and we are licensed in Ontario under REC-0000007562 and THA-0000007550.
Post the role yourself when you have strong inbound and time to sort it. The case for an agency is the opposite situation: the strongest technology candidates are already employed and not looking, and reaching them takes sourcing rather than screening. The honest test is what a vacancy costs you per week. If that number is larger than a one-time placement fee, waiting is the expensive option. Our cost of delayed hiring calculator puts a figure on it for your role.
Ask three things. Who actually screens your candidates, because at many firms the person you meet is not the person doing the work. What happens if the hire does not work out, and whether that promise is in writing. And whether they recruit your discipline specifically or everything at once. Then check the licence: Ontario has required recruiters and temporary help agencies to hold one since 2024, and the register is public.
Permanent hires are success-based: a percentage of first-year base salary, invoiced only when your hire starts, with no upfront fee or retainer and a 90-day guarantee behind it. Contract runs on a single transparent hourly rate with our margin already inside it, invoiced monthly for hours worked. Nothing is owed if you do not hire.
Software engineering and development, data and AI, cloud and infrastructure, security, and technology leadership, from intermediate through executive. If a search sits outside what we can genuinely screen for, we say so rather than take the brief. Every discipline has its own screening rubric, which you can see on the individual role pages.
