The top of the Canadian market. AI architects own model selection, infrastructure, governance, and the integration decisions that determine whether an AI program produces value or a very expensive proof of concept. The blast radius of a wrong call is measured in seven figures, and compensation follows the blast radius. Demand concentrates where there is a clear path to deployment and value; exploratory AI budgets have tightened while production budgets have grown.
2. Cybersecurity Architect: $160,000 to $200,000 senior
Security architecture leads a category whose demand is driven by regulation and by AI-related risk exposure, the newest layer on a familiar stack of obligations. The architect designs the controls the rest of the security team operates. The wider family populates this list: incident managers at 14, penetration testers at 15, and cybersecurity managers just off it at $190,000 top of band.
3. Cloud Architect: $150,000 to $190,000 senior
Cloud spend is one of the largest line items in most technology budgets, and the architect decides whether it is money well spent. The role pays a $50,000 premium over the cloud administrator who runs the environment, which is the purest example of the architecture pattern anywhere in the guide.
4. Data Architect: $160,000 to $190,000 senior
Every AI ambition runs through data infrastructure, which quietly turned data architecture into a prerequisite trade. Note the junior band: at $115,000 to $125,000, it is the highest entry point on this list, because the role is rarely truly junior. Most arrive from senior engineering seats.
5. Program Manager: $150,000 to $190,000 senior
The only non-technical role in the top ten, and the exception that proves the rule: program managers own outcomes across multiple teams and budgets, while project managers own schedules. The market prices the difference at $25,000 to $30,000 at the senior top. Software project managers top out at $160,000 in our data; program managers reach $190,000.

Solutions architects translate business problems into technical designs, usually across several systems and vendors at once. The role rewards breadth and client-facing fluency, and it is a common destination for senior developers who want scope without people management.

The most reliably contested offer stage in our recent placements. Data engineers build the pipelines everything downstream depends on, and the supply of seniors who have run production-scale pipelines has not caught up with demand. The classic architecture seat: system design, technical standards, and the decisions a development organization lives with for a decade. Technical leads sit close behind at $170,000 top of band, and the two roles are often a negotiation apart. The architect title signals decision ownership, and the band reflects it.
11. DevOps Engineer: $140,000 to $170,000 senior
DevOps sits between every deployment and every outage, which gives the role leverage in any market. It is also the list’s best example of ladder economics: an $85,000 junior can double their compensation inside a decade without ever changing job titles. Cloud specialists and administrators track $30,000 behind at equivalent seniority.
12. Data Scientist: $145,000 to $170,000 senior
Still a strong band, though the title has ceded ground to data engineering and AI engineering as companies moved from analysis to production. Offensive security stays in demand for a simple reason: every new compliance framework and every new AI system creates new attack surface to test. Vulnerability analysts track about $30,000 behind; the premium goes to testers who can chain findings into demonstrated business risk rather than a scan report.
The other side of the two-speed market
An honest salary article should also say what the market is not paying for. The volatility of previous years has settled into deep segmentation: revenue-critical and risk-critical roles command the bands above, while roles perceived as easily outsourced, automated, or loosely defined have flat trajectories.
